Nine of our children in secondary school are going to take thir briefting for UNEB (Uganda National Examination Board) on 2026/10/08. The Kabarole adventist secondary school has organized compulsory holidays for the children to study and thorough preparation for the UNEB. Parents have to pay for the welfare of the children during that period (31/08-12/09). With all requirements needed the money is 450,000 Uganda shillings per child.

Ana Martinez Llivina has supported this extra cost for two of our students and some of our friends has cover the expenses for other 3 students.

The UNEB briefing

In Uganda, a UNEB briefing is a formal meeting where officials from the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) present the latest national exam results and key findings to the Minister of Education and Sports (and sometimes other senior officials) just before the results are released to the public.

These briefings usually cover:

• Overall performance statistics (pass rates, distinctions, subject trends)
• Quality assurance and any issues detected (e.g., malpractice, marking concerns)
• Comparisons by region, school type, gender, and subject
• Recommendations or policy implications for the Ministry

After this internal briefing, the Minister typically announces the official release date and then presents the results nationally. There’s also a smaller-scale “briefing” for schools (e.g., S4/UCE candidates) before exams, where UNEB supervisors and head teachers warn students against malpractice and explain exam rules.

UNEB is central to how Uganda’s school system works because it certifies completion of each education cycle. PLE, UCE, and UACE certificates officially show that a student has completed primary, O-Level, or A-Level education.

Controls progression to the next level

• PLE results influence placement into secondary schools and vocational institutes.
• UCE results determine entry into A-Level (Senior 5–6) or technical/vocational training.
• UACE results are the main gateway to university and other tertiary institutions.

It impact on students’ careers and life chances for individual students, UNEB exams are high-stakes:

• University and tertiary admission: UACE results are the primary criterion for entry into public and private universities and many diploma/degree programs. Better grades = more options and access to competitive courses (medicine, engineering, law, etc.).
• Employment opportunities: Many employers in Uganda ask for at least UCE or UACE certificates as a basic requirement. The grades can affect (1) Whether you qualify for a job at all (2) Which level of job you can apply for and (3) Your starting salary or training opportunities
• Scholarships and sponsorship: Government and private sponsors often use UNEB results to select beneficiaries. Strong performance can open doors to fully or partially funded education.
